From Malpensa and Linate to San Siro, without a wrong change

The short answer: wherever you land, the destination is the same — San Siro Ippodromo on the lilac M5 line, 389 metres from the flat. From Linate it is all metro, from Malpensa a train plus two metro lines, from Centrale a single change at Garibaldi.

From Malpensa (MXP)

Malpensa Express to Cadorna — the most convenient terminus for the west of the city, about 40 minutes — then M1 towards Rho as far as Lotto and the M5 for one stop to San Siro Ippodromo. About an hour and a quarter in total; the changes at Cadorna and Lotto are short and manageable with luggage.

Taxis from Malpensa charge a flat fare into Milan (the current amount is posted at the airport and on the city council site): it makes sense for three people, late at night, or with a lot of luggage. Without traffic the drive is a generous half hour.

From Linate (LIN)

The simplest route of all, entirely underground on one urban ticket: M4 from inside the terminal to San Babila, M1 towards Rho as far as Lotto, M5 for one stop. About 45-50 minutes door to door. The M4 leaves from inside the airport building — follow the signs, no shuttle needed.

From Milano Centrale

M2 to Garibaldi (two stops), then the M5 direct: nine stops to San Siro Ippodromo, no further changes, about half an hour in total. It is the same route in reverse that you will use to reach the centre: the M5 is the house line, and it has a guide of its own.

The last stretch: from the platform to the door

Get off at San Siro Ippodromo (not at the San Siro Stadio terminus: that one is for the stadium gates). From there Via Capecelatro 81 is 389 metres, a four-minute walk on flat, tree-lined pavements — with suitcases that is not a detail. Check-in is self-service with a code, from 3 pm: no appointment to miss if your flight is late.

One resident's warning: if you land on a match or concert day, avoid arriving in the district in the hour before the event — the area locks up. Better a coffee in the centre and an arrival after kick-off, on empty streets.
